Mission Control – Are You Ready?

My journey to international best selling author started with a desire to write a novel. I had already written two recipe books which although aren’t best selling, taught me about the process of self-publishing, most importantly how not to do it. To achieve my goal I need to focus on solutions rather than problems, imagine a giant spider diagram with your goal in the middle. It is likely to have at least 50 branches you need to address. What do you need to achieve your goal? Are there skills you can learn which will lead you to your goal? Priority skills for me are improving writing styles and story development and working on my self-discipline, loving myself and appreciating my work.

So now I have a list of where I need to start, Stephen King advises that writers should read as much as they write, so my mounting to be read pile will start reducing soon. I have found the best books on writing styles and will research how to develop a story because these are the foundation skills authors require. Life is a self-fulfilling prophecy so whatever you are thinking about subconsciously or otherwise will happen. It is hard to see how it can be true – how many times do you think you have asked for something and not received it? – but reading Napoleon Hills “Think and Grow Rich” gives several examples which prove the universe will give you what you ask for – you simply have to ask! As they always say if you don’t ask you don’t get and concentrating on not wanting something is as good as wanting it because that’s where you are focusing your energy.

Imagining myself sat at my desk looking across the garden watching the dogs play when I’ve bought my new house in the country enjoying my newfound success. I know exactly what the house looks like and the garden – the dogs will be rescues so I have no particular breed in mind. It has taken me a while to accept that the solution is to focus on the goal, it was an awkward struggle to convince myself that it is that simple. When you finally accept that visualisation is key to the process of achieving your goal, as I have done, you will make more progress than you have ever done before. The more I see myself sat at that desk the easier it is for me to see how the skills are an important part of the process. People want an engaging and addictive book they can’t put down and that’s what I need to give to people, so before my book gets published I’ve got to work on making my book just that especially if I want to write a sequel.

Writing my daily post allows me to practice in any style I choose, whether it be fiction or non-fiction, poetry or prose I can share my progress and develop my skills. To be the best version of me is important in achieving my goals. Self-discipline is a skill on my list to develop, commitment is key. Making it fun is the easiest way of engaging yourself if you don’t enjoy something it’s unlikely you will learn much. Practice makes perfect as they say and that applies to not just writing but exercise as well. I want to be fitter and healthier than I am now and the best way to get fit is to exercise. Whether it be walking or squats, regular sessions of either improve not just the body but the mind as well.

Loving yourself is important. As you will find it difficult seeing the wood from the trees if you don’t because being constantly conflicted and unclear as to your goal will simply lead you astray.
